How I choose #followfriday mentions…

If you’ve ever looked over the names I tweet on #followfriday and wondered why I make the choices I do, I can sum it up easily.

These people talk.

They aren’t marketers or entrepreneurs tweeting the same scams every day, and they aren’t trying to sell you access to their super secret porn pics of Britney, or their dating sites. They talk about themselves, and they’re usually pretty interesting to read throughout the day. Sometimes they say stuff that makes me cough on my tea, but I don’t hold that against them. In fact, I consider it one of their endearing traits.

But this alone is not enough to make the coveted #followfriday list. Nay nay…what am I, a fucking horse? I digress, the list is made up of people who reply to me. I send them a tweet in reply to something they said, and they reply back. They are active participants in the conversation, even if it is a brief exchange. Which I think, is what social software is really all about, the ability to socialize.

So there you go. If you tweet and you want to make my list of followers, don’t be a spammer or a scammer. If you want me to follow you back, be a real person who talks about yourself in an interesting way. If your tweets read like the food journal entries of Jonathan Harker, I’m not wasting my time. Sorry. And if you want to make my #followfriday list, offer me the coutesy of the occasional reply.

That’s not really so hard, is it?

... I write dark fiction in a variety of genres. My blog contains my rants and rambles, and some short fiction that can only be found here. I can be pretty fucking offensive, so viewer discretion is advised.
