What the hell is an Urban Musical Crime Fantasy?

In the world of dark fantasy, there is no hero more maligned than…the bard. That’s right, while everyone just adores demon slayers and witch hunters, and there’s plenty of love for good witches and half-demon heroines, the fact is, there’s not much love for the bard.

I can understand why. Their power comes from singing, and to make a book about them, you’d have to make a musical. And who in their right mind would try to sell a dark fantasy musical?

Fortunately, I am not in my right mind.

Now, regular readers will know Jenny Wrigley already. She is the “alter ego” of Marcus, and they’ve been featured as an interesting side character in Touched, Blood Relations, and Redemption Lost. Jenny is a shapeshifter, not to be confused with the werekin, or with races like the wyrm, who have no true body. Shapeshifters have both male and female genders, including both sets of set organs. You may think Marcus is the guy in charge, since he’s been seen so often.

And you would be wrong. In fact, Jenny has very good reasons for keeping herself hidden. Dark reasons that have affected her for her whole life. In this next story, Jenny will finally meet other shapeshifters and learn more about what she is.

What will follow is the story of a bardic shapeshifter coming to terms with themselves, with their genetic heritage, and with their growing magic abilities. No one will use the term bard, of course, but that what Jenny is.

In her struggle to build her own identity and destiny, Jenny will fight against her new shapeshifter companions, but ultimately, she will choose to assist them in a complex cloning scam worth millions. You can forget about labeling anyone as the good guys or the bad, because everyone here is bad in some way. This is a crime fiction story, detailing how a routine scam goes terribly wrong.

So, there you go. It’s a dark fantasy, yes. It is a crime fiction, yes, and it is a musical. It a fusion of all these things, and that’s why I call this tale Changeling: An Urban Musical Crime Fantasy. It will stun you with magical disasters, plot twists, sex, betrayals, a soul sucking office building (+2) and a musical gunfight.

Curious? The ride gets started on Friday, and then the weird hits the fan. ^_^

Edit: I’ve just been handed a memo that says the Internet connection will go down on Friday. If it does, then Changeling will start after I get back online in the new apartment. Sorry for the confusion.
