And now, a pause for the beg-a-thon…

Wow, what a stunning conclusion to Zombie Punter. And yet, also an open ending, leaving wiggle room for a few sequels if there’s enough reader response. I really hope there is a big reader response to my kind of dark fantasy zombie, because I’m looking forward to building in the stories of G, Kate and Susan.

Like most of my serial fiction, you can now pick up free e-books from my web site in four different formats: Adobe PDF, Mobipocket PRC, Microsoft LIT, and Palm PDB. Every version except the Palm PDB includes a nifty color cover with a zombie football player.

Before I get started posting the next story, I want to take a moment to talk to you about supporting me, or more specifically, supporting my stories. Think of this as my version of the PBS beg-a-thon, except instead of asking you for a cash donation, I’ll first request reviews, ratings, and links. Of course, cash is nice too, but we can save that kind of begging for the very end. Beg-a-thon commences, after the cut.

First of all, I’m starting to see better traffic on both my web site and my blog. This tells me that I’m on the right path with my streamlined methods of delivering serial stories. I’m presenting new fiction every few days, not more than 10 pages at the most, but usually in the ranges of 5-8 pages. Each novella or novel takes a few weeks to a couple months to get out and complete, but nothing ever runs so long as to be a drag on your attention. (In theory)

Many of the stories take place in the same world, falling under a common time line. But even within the Mystical World Wars chronology, you aren’t just following one cast. You’re going to be following many races, and none of the stories will be set in a given style. So maybe one book is a dark fantasy about a big battle, but the next book will be more quiet and deal with the private lives of the characters. Or maybe it will be a slightly humorous look at what “normal life” means to mystical creatures in the modern world.

Think of it like issues of a comic book world. Yes, you can count on crossovers and trips to parallel universes, but sometimes, you also get a slower paced issue where the characters have to deal with a personal crisis instead of rushing into a big battle.

To keep you from getting tired of just hearing about one race, I’m covering a wide variety of mystical creatures. Already, I’ve presented you with characters who are halflings, elves, dwarfs, shapeshifters, magi, mutants, orcs, vampires, werekin, wyrm, wraiths and daemons. I’m not done with the full list yet, but when all of those get to be too much, I’ll shift gears to do something different in a standalone story with a human protagonist.

This diversity and constant experimentation is meant to keep you, the readers, interested in coming back. Not every story I write is going to work for you. I get that, and I’m cool if you decide to split for the sci-fi but come back for the vampires and werebears.

When I do snag your interest in a story, it would really help me out if you say so. Not to me, but to other people. Take copies of my e-books and pass them on to your friends. Really, it’s okay to do it. Not being beholden to a publisher, I can make a copyright on my free e-books that encourages file sharing. So by all means, do “pirate” copies and push them onto friends.

If you don’t want to pass around copies, why not consider writing a short review of a story for your blog, and then post a link to my site to let your readers download the story themselves? If you don’t have a blog, then you could put up the same review in a forum or any usenet groups that you frequent, where such things would be relevant, of course. I’m not suggesting you spam anyone, but if there’s a place to put up a review and a link, it would help me out a lot.

And finally, if you can’t offer support by either of these methods, but you like the stories you’re reading, why not consider stopping by my stories page to leave a tip through Paypal? Or you could buy an e-book through Mobipocket or Amazon. Or you could even spend big and go for the print editions of the Campaign trilogy.

All right, that concludes this edition of beg-a-thon. Tune in next time for the prologue of Blind Rage, and thanks again for reading my stories.
